Acronis Backup Configuration and Monitoring

This document explains how to configure different types of backups, perform on-demand backups, monitor backup jobs, and review backup activity in Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud.

Platform: Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud

1. Configure Full Machine Backup

Procedure

  1. Log in to the Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud console.
  2. Navigate to Protection Plans.
  3. Create a new plan or edit an existing one.
  4. Under Backup, select Entire Machine as the backup source.
  5. Choose the backup destination.
  6. Configure the backup schedule and retention policy.
  7. Save the protection plan and assign it to the required device.

Note: A full machine backup includes the operating system, installed applications, system settings, and all available disks.


2. Configure Disk-Level Backup

Procedure

  1. Open the required Protection Plan.
  2. Under Backup Source, select Disks/Volumes.
  3. Select the required disks or partitions.
  4. Configure the backup destination.
  5. Set the backup schedule.
  6. Save the protection plan.

Note: Disk-level backups protect selected disks or partitions without backing up the entire machine.


3. Configure File and Folder Backup

Procedure

  1. Open the required Protection Plan.
  2. Select Files/Folders as the backup source.
  3. Browse and select the required files or folders.
  4. Configure the backup destination.
  5. Set the backup schedule and retention policy.
  6. Save the protection plan.

Note: File-level backups reduce storage usage by protecting only selected data.


4. Configure Windows Server Backup

Procedure

  1. Ensure the Acronis Backup Agent is installed on the Windows Server.
  2. Create or edit a Protection Plan.
  3. Select Entire Machine, Disks, or Files/Folders as the backup source.
  4. Choose the backup destination.
  5. Configure the backup schedule and retention policy.
  6. Assign the protection plan to the Windows Server.

5. Configure Linux Server Backup

Procedure

  1. Verify the Acronis Backup Agent is installed on the Linux server.
  2. Create or edit a Protection Plan.
  3. Select the required backup type:
    • Entire Machine
    • Disk-Level
    • File and Folder
  4. Configure the backup destination.
  5. Configure the backup schedule.
  6. Save and assign the protection plan.

6. Configure SQL Server Backup

Procedure

  1. Ensure the Acronis Backup Agent with SQL support is installed.
  2. Create or edit a Protection Plan.
  3. Select Microsoft SQL Server as the backup workload.
  4. Choose the SQL Server instance and databases.
  5. Configure the backup destination.
  6. Define the backup schedule and retention policy.
  7. Save the protection plan.

Note: Application-aware backups ensure database consistency and support point-in-time recovery where applicable.


7. Configure Microsoft 365 Backup

Procedure

  1. Log in to the Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud console.
  2. Navigate to Microsoft 365 Protection.
  3. Connect the Microsoft 365 tenant.
  4. Grant the required permissions.
  5. Select the workloads to protect:
    • Exchange Online
    • OneDrive
    • SharePoint Online
    • Microsoft Teams
  6. Configure the backup schedule and retention settings.
  7. Save the backup configuration.

8. Run an On-Demand Backup

Procedure

  1. Navigate to Devices.
  2. Select the required device.
  3. Click Run Backup.
  4. Select the protection plan.
  5. Click Start.
  6. Monitor the backup progress from the Activities page.

9. Stop a Running Backup

Procedure

  1. Navigate to Activities.
  2. Locate the running backup job.
  3. Select the backup task.
  4. Click Stop.
  5. Confirm the action.

Note: Stopping a backup may result in an incomplete recovery point.


10. Check Backup Status

Procedure

  1. Navigate to Activities or Devices.
  2. Select the required device.
  3. Open the Backup History.
  4. Review the current status.

Common backup statuses include:

  • Successful
  • Running
  • Failed
  • Warning
  • Cancelled

11. Verify the Latest Successful Backup

Procedure

  1. Open the Devices page.
  2. Select the required device.
  3. Navigate to Recovery Points or Backup History.
  4. Locate the most recent backup.
  5. Confirm:
    • Backup completion time
    • Backup type
    • Backup size
    • Status shows Successful

12. Review Acronis Activity Logs

Procedure

  1. Log in to the Acronis console.
  2. Navigate to Activities.
  3. Review recent backup operations.
  4. Select an activity to view detailed information.
  5. Review:
    • Job start and finish time
    • Backup result
    • Error messages (if any)
    • Warnings
    • Backup destination
  6. Use the logs to investigate backup failures or verify successful operations.
