Acronis Backup Recovery and Restore

This document explains how to restore files, disks, and entire machines using Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud. It also covers bootable recovery media, Universal Restore, SQL database recovery, restore testing, and post-recovery validation.

Platform: Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud

1. Restore Individual Files and Folders

Procedure

  1. Log in to the Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud console.
  2. Navigate to Devices and select the required device.
  3. Open Recovery or Recovery Points.
  4. Select the required backup.
  5. Click Recover Files/Folders.
  6. Browse and select the required files or folders.
  7. Choose the restore location:
    • Original Location
    • Alternate Location
  8. Click Recover.

2. Restore an Entire Disk

Procedure

  1. Navigate to Devices.
  2. Select the required machine.
  3. Open Recovery Points.
  4. Select the required backup.
  5. Choose Recover Disks.
  6. Select the disk(s) to restore.
  7. Specify the destination disk.
  8. Click Recover.

Note: Existing data on the destination disk may be overwritten.


3. Restore a Full Machine

Procedure

  1. Open Devices.
  2. Select the protected machine.
  3. Navigate to Recovery.
  4. Select the required recovery point.
  5. Choose Entire Machine Recovery.
  6. Select the target machine.
  7. Review the recovery options.
  8. Click Recover and wait for completion.

4. Perform Bare-Metal Recovery

Procedure

  1. Boot the target server using Acronis Bootable Media.
  2. Connect to the network if required.
  3. Connect to the Acronis backup storage.
  4. Select the required backup.
  5. Choose Recover Entire Machine.
  6. Select the destination disk.
  7. Start the recovery process.
  8. Restart the server after recovery completes.

Note: Bare-metal recovery restores a system to new or replacement hardware without requiring an operating system to be installed.


5. Create Acronis Bootable Media

Procedure

  1. Open the Acronis Media Builder utility.
  2. Select the bootable media type:
    • USB Drive
    • ISO Image
  3. Choose the required recovery components.
  4. Create the bootable media.
  5. Store the media securely for disaster recovery.

6. Use Acronis Universal Restore

Procedure

  1. Boot the target server using Acronis Bootable Media.
  2. Select the required machine backup.
  3. Enable Universal Restore.
  4. Provide any required storage or network drivers.
  5. Start the recovery process.
  6. Restart the server after recovery.

Note: Universal Restore allows recovery to hardware that differs from the original system.


7. Restore a Windows Server

Procedure

  1. Select the required Windows Server.
  2. Open Recovery Points.
  3. Select the required backup.
  4. Choose the recovery type:
    • Entire Machine
    • Disk
    • Files and Folders
  5. Configure the recovery destination.
  6. Start the restore operation.
  7. Wait for the recovery to complete.

8. Restore a Linux Server

Procedure

  1. Select the required Linux server.
  2. Open Recovery Points.
  3. Choose the required backup.
  4. Select the recovery type.
  5. Configure the restore destination.
  6. Start the restore process.
  7. Reboot the server if required.

9. Restore SQL Database

Procedure

  1. Navigate to Devices.
  2. Select the SQL Server.
  3. Open Recovery Points.
  4. Choose the SQL database backup.
  5. Select the database(s) to restore.
  6. Specify the target SQL Server instance.
  7. Start the recovery process.

Note: Application-aware backups support consistent SQL database recovery.


10. Download Files from Backup

Procedure

  1. Open Recovery Points.
  2. Select the required backup.
  3. Browse the backup contents.
  4. Select the required files.
  5. Click Download.
  6. Save the files to the local system.

11. Perform Restore Testing

Procedure

  1. Select a recent backup.
  2. Restore the backup to a test environment or alternate location.
  3. Verify the restored operating system starts successfully.
  4. Confirm applications and services function correctly.
  5. Validate the integrity of restored files and databases.
  6. Document the test results.

Note: Regular restore testing helps ensure backups are recoverable when needed.


12. Verify a Restored Server

Procedure

  1. Log in to the restored server.
  2. Confirm the operating system boots successfully.
  3. Verify disk partitions and available storage.
  4. Check network connectivity.
  5. Confirm critical services are running.
  6. Verify application functionality.
  7. Review system and application logs for errors.
  8. Confirm users can access required services.
